Quality Subsea Services Provided By Experienced Engineers
Professional Subsea services provide their clients with more than construction services. Before construction takes place there are a range of services that they will need to provide. Each project that is undertaken is usually begun with a design of the project and a survey of the area that is going to be used for the construction of the item. Professional and reliable services are usually those that are available from the conception of the project through to the maintenance and inspection of the completed project.
Designing the Project
Subsea services are most commonly used for the construction of pipelines that carry oil and gas from one location to the next, via the seabed. When an engineering company is called in to perform a job they will usually begin by designing the pipeline and surveying the area through which the pipeline is going to be constructed. When they have determined that the area is a fitting location for the project they will then begin designing the structures and determining the methods that they will use to construct it.
Before the pipeline can be constructed, a team will need to be assembled to begin the task. This team will usually include project managers, engineers and divers. Divers are usually called in when the project calls for shallow water diving. The preparations that are usually done in a particular area will usually depend on the type of project that is underway. Mining projects will not have the same preparation procedures as those of structure construction.
Compiling the Final Reports
Once the project has been completed, final reports will have to be compiled. The project will have to be inspected and the results will have to be recorded. This task is usually handled by the subsea services that completed the project. The final report will usually be used to determine the success of the project and it will include other necessary information that will be used in the future to maintain the structures and pipelines. Preparation is one of the most important aspects of engineering and it involves a lot of calculations. These calculations have to be correct in order for the project to be successful.
Quality is more important than choosing the lowest possible rates. Companies that make use of engineers should ensure that the company they choose will be able to offer them long-term services that will improve the standard of their business. Short term solutions usually turn out to be the most expensive solutions. By choosing a company that is able to offer quality work, the structures and pipelines will be able to work more efficiently and this will result in greater profits in the long run.
Expanding Your Knowledge on Subsea Services
The arena of subsea services is constantly changing. As new developments are made in the industry, engineers need to ensure that they are aware of all of the new trends and technological advancements that are currently making their way into the industry. One of the best ways to keep updated on all of these changes is to get involved in discussions and take courses concerning this subject.
New Developments in the Field
As new technologies are being developed, the field of subsea services is changing. Engineers who are working on these projects benefit from being aware of the latest technologies that can be used on their current projects. Engineers who are overseeing these projects need to understand the technology that is being used or they will fall behind.
As the industry attempts to tackle harsher and deeper waters, engineers need to be aware of the dangers and the key issues involved in their attempts to access the minerals, oils and gases that they are looking for. By using the best technologies, they are able to tackle harsh conditions in order to get the job done in the quickest and most efficient manner.
Safety is the Main Concern
Subsea services have always been concerned with safety. The environmental conditions that engineers are exposed to can be harsh. They need to be aware of the safety measures that just might save their lives in the field. As harsher waters are tackled, these safety measures are becoming even more important and risk management will be something that engineers have to focus on before going into the field.
In the field, engineers might come across difficulties when it comes to their tasks and the technology that is able to support them. When faced with a problem that the current technology cannot solve, certain companies will strive to create their own technologies for these tasks. Remaining involved in the subsea industry will allow engineers to communicate with others and this might allow them to learn about the new types of technologies that are being development.
Communicating With Other Engineers
Communicating with engineers from around the world can be very valuable to those working in this industry. As the industry grows and new challenges are faced, communication might be the key to solving many of the issues that engineers in this field continue to face. By working together, engineers in this industry can find solutions to problems that they face on a regular basis and improve the way the industry functions. Learning from others in this field can also assist new engineers in learning about the industry and giving them the type of experience they need to become invaluable to the field.
Don't Be Misled By an ISO 14001 Accreditation
If you are aware that the ISO 14001 accreditation refers to environment management schemes, you might blindly assume that the company that uses this to promote itself is more environmentally friendly than one who doesn’t. This may not be true. For a start, you should be aware of what the ISO does and does not allow. It does not allow a company to use the ISO logo and suggests that any company wanting to use a logo contact the certification body for permission to use theirs. The organisation itself does not do audits, assessments or issue certification. It also demands that the proper form is used when declaring the certification the company has been awarded. In this instance the proper designation is 'Certified to ISO 14001:2004'.
The ISO suggests that companies be careful not to place ISO 14001:2004 conformity marks on products or packaging in such a way that it gives the impression the product is certified. The accreditation is that a company has an environmental management scheme in place that acts to minimise the impact on the environment during the manufacturing process, the product itself should conform to other standards. Here in Britain they will be determined by UK or EU laws.
The ISO also states that the ISO 14001 accreditation should declare accurately the geographic scope of the certification. Comparing products like for like, a company certified in the USA or Europe will be adhering to stricter environmental laws than a company certified in south-east Asia. This is not a flaw in the ISO 14001:2004 standards, it is rather, the fact that the permissible levels of pollution or environmental impact are vastly different. It falls then on the consumer to make a decision on whether to spend the extra amount on the least environmentally damaging product or to go for the cheaper option, regardless of the environmental consequences.
It cost companies money to gain ISO 14001 accreditation and their primary reason for doing so is to be able to say that it is minimising its impact on the environment, thus appearing 'greener' and generating more sales. This is despite the fact the processes the company uses might still be highly destructive. This is still better news for the environment though, because a certified company has to comply with the guidelines, one of which requires on-going improvements and less environmental impact, therefore the processes used will get progressively 'greener', although possibly more expensive.
This is certainly more desirable for the environment than having an uncertified company that keeps on using the most cost effective way of producing its wares, or worse still, uses processes that increase the impact, allowing them to increase their through-put or profit margins.
Another release of new technology, HPHT
Higher Pressure and Higher Temperature environment is a new technology that has peeped into the oil industry since years back. This technology is very advanced and the top most technology used in drilling oil wells. Even though the higher pressure higher temperature oil wells are highly difficult to be built, it is constructed in many parts of the world and a larger number in the US.
Under sea equipments and the under ground pipe line technology has gone beyond its scope due to the invention of HPHT technology. The HPHT technology has a very high demand as many oil reservoirs exceed the required temperature and pressure limits. As the wells go deeper and deeper, the temperature and pressure reaches a very higher value which challenges the drilling equipments as well as the required fluid properties. HPHT technology breaks this barrier going highly beyond the theoretical limit of the pressure and temperature an oil reservoir could posses. This technology improves the safety and efficiency of the drilling operations in HPHT environment.
HPHT technology faces high challenges like the other oil industry technologies and services. If the barrier is a high temperature or a high pressure alone is an easy challenge which could be settled off. But when both the temperature as well as the pressure remains very high, the work environment turns to a drastic condition which requires different sensors, electronics and other equipments. These complications are very difficult to sort out.
A major development is expected to take place in the higher pressure and higher temperature technology to battle off the inconveniences caused during the application of the technology. Many engineering firms and researchers are currently working on finding further effective and much appreciable solutions that could further enhance the HPHT technology.
Mazda Dealer Network Breaking Records
As most of the world's manufacturing sectors continue to experience declines in annual sales and profits, one company is making money in defiance of the norms. What's more astonishing is the fact that the company in question is part of the historically troubled auto industry. So who is that company? It is none other than Japanese auto maker Mazda.
Mazda has exceeded both their own sales goals and projections for '08 and '09. A big part of that success can be traced back to the professionalism and dedication of the Mazda Dealer Network. Now more than 160 dealers strong in the UK, the network prides itself on top-of-the-line customer service to back up some of the world's finest cars.
Mazda invests plenty of resources and time into their dealers to insure proper training and support. The belief that dealers are the backbone of Mazda sales permeates all the interactions between dealerships and corporate headquarters. From the Mazda Academy to individual business management assistance, the Mazda Dealer Network is given the full faith and support of the company.
That support is paying off is some impressive sales numbers. To begin with, Mazda hit an all-time record in terms of market share this past summer, rising to 3.8% of the retail market and 2.7% of the fleet market. Even while overall sales for the industry continued to fall through the first half of 2010, Mazda keeps selling new and used vehicles.
'08-'09 Numbers
The first half of 2009 saw an increase of net profits by 60% over the same period of 2008. That is an astonishing number when one considers the industry as a whole suffered sales losses of more than 25%. Mazda's margin rose during that time to 1.55 even though turnover was down. As mentioned earlier, a big factor in the margin/turnover ratio is the dedication of the Mazda Dealer Network.
By reducing inventory at individual dealerships, while still providing the same excellent customer care, dealers were able to satisfy the demand for their products without hurting themselves with excessive overhead. Dealers can thank Mazda Academy training for guiding them through such sound business practices.
'09-'10 Numbers
In August of 2010, retail sales in the auto industry were down again, this time at a dismal rate of 37%. Mazda beat the trend with increased sales of more than 4%. The 1,512 cars sold during August raised the company's total to more than 29,000 for the year. That's an increase of nearly 18% over the same period in 2009. Most dramatic was the Mazda6, which outsold its competitors by a 5-1 ratio. All this is further evidence that Mazda continues its strong performance despite downward industry trends.
Where to Look For an Engineering Job
Engineering is a truly fantastic profession to get into. Even if there aren’t as many engineering jobs available at the moment due to the worldwide recession it is an industry that is always going to be looking for smart new graduates to help get the world market back on its feet. The engineering industry will never disappear and it will always need bright new people. So if you are recently qualified in engineering or you are about to, you may be worried about how to find the job you have been looking for. Fortunately there are a number of ways that you can look for the perfect job even in these tough economic times.
The way that the majority of the big multinational companies look for new employees is to go straight to the universities to find the brightest graduates. They will look for newly qualified engineers on the campus in order to try to lure them to accept jobs that they have on offer. These companies know that if they can get these new graduates as soon as they qualify, that they will be getting some of the most gifted minds. Some of these companies are actually closely linked with some of the specific engineering departments in the universities and will be given a heads up on who the best students are. Other firms will advertise within the university for specific career opportunities. The main way that they do this is on the bulletin boards throughout the campus or on the online boards. Sometimes they have open days in the universities where a number of firms will have stands with information on career opportunities within their specific company.
These open days and advertisements are great for engineering students who have not yet qualified and are about to take their final exams. It can give them a real sense of what is on offer once they have qualified. It is highly recommended that those about to qualify for an engineering degree take advantage of these opportunities.
Internships are another great way for engineering students to get a foot in the door. Training on the job is a great way for companies to see what you have to offer and this often leads to promotions and enhanced career paths. An internship will also allow engineering graduates to build up some contacts within the engineering industry and this can help with future job hunting.
If you have already qualified as an engineer and you are no longer attending university, you may miss these open days and job fairs so it would be wise to look elsewhere for engineering jobs. One of the best places to look is on the internet. More and more companies are now advertising online as they know that this is the first place that people will go in their search for employment. The best engineering jobs will be advertised online so it is worth checking the major job sites on a daily basis to ensure you are first in line to apply!
